What are backing up storage devices?
Different types of backing up storage devices.
Backing up storage
Backing storage devices are where you can store data forever. This means that data is held when the computer is switched off and can be loaded onto a computer system when required. Also backing storage devices can be grouped in three different parts primary, secondary and tertiary storage. Primary storage is placed inside the computer it is small in capacity and it is mainly lost when the computer is turned off. Secondary storage is mainly located in the computer, is permanent store for data such as software. Secondary storage is mostly higher in capacity, than primary storage devices. Tertiary storage is portable storage than is made to use or transfer data on different computers.
Disk
Disk is direct-access storage medium and therefore overcomes the major limitation of tape. This gives it a very real advantage over tape in this respect. Disk
Flash memory cards
A memory card (sometimes called a flash memory card or a storage card) is a small storage medium used to store data such as text, pictures, audio, and video, for use on small, portable or remote computing devices.
Zip disk
Zip disk are likely small disk but can store 250MB or more of data. To read them a computer needs a zip drive. Their use is similar to that of floppy disks. Newer storage mediums such as DVD- rws and memory sticks have replaced floppy/zip disk.
Floppy disk
Floppy disks hold very small amounts of data, just 1.44MB and a computer needs a floppy drive to read them. They are used to transfer small files of data from one machine to another

Usb flash drive
A flash drive is a small storage device that can be used to transport files from one computer to another. They are slightly larger than a stick of gum, yet many of these devices can carry all your homework
Primary memory
Primary storage, also known as memory, is the main area in a computer in which data is stored for quick access by the computer. RAM is the main type of primary storage it is used in all computers. RAM is a primary storage device as it matches all the features needed for a primary storage device. Primary memory is much faster and also it is more cost effective.
Secondary memory
Secondary storage devices are devices that are used for permanent storage. Secondary memory is much slower and less costly. The secondary memory is usually available in the form of floppy disk storage media, hard disk, cd and memory chips.
Tertiary memory
Tertiary storage devices are devices that are used for storage purposes. Tertiary storage is used for its portability, meaning that tertiary devices main advantage is that data on one computer can be accessed on another computer. USB memory stick is a good example of tertiary storage. USB sticks are moveable and are simply to use. The data can be saved easily and accessed simply.
